Renowned media personality, Kwasi Aboagye aka “The Darling Boy”, host of Peace FM 103.4 MHz weekend showbiz talk show ‘Entertainment Review” on Saturday afternoon May 9th, 2020, disclosed that Despite Media Group could also lay-off workers if the need arises. This was a follow up sentiment he made on the issue of termination of top Ghanaian media personalities contracts by their respective media houses as a measure to keep afloat as far as their finance books and expenditures are concern after the sudden emergence of the novel coronavirus pandemic. However, it is no secret that these trying times is having a toll on businesses and therefore forcing entrepreneurs to be economical. Media houses thrives on Paid-advertising slots and Programme sponsorship. So, if Corporate bodies and institutions do not spend on these two segments in production. It lives no option for the owner of the station to cut down cost. According to Kwasi, there is a system put in place by management to allow some section of employees to work from home (which is “OUT”) to pave way for an effective social distancing protocol observation against COVID-19 infection. Whiles the second batch are allowed to come to “Ship House” to discharge official duties (Which is “IN”). He therefore cautioned that this could lead to job losses at their media house if the trend continues like this. “So, it is not just Multimedia, it is not just EIB or Global Media Alliance. Even though, as we speak, officially, management has not handled over sacked letters to employees, but there is likely that some employees could be laid-off”, he stated.
