Ghana’s Deputy Trade & Industry Minister, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah has resigned on Friday, July 3rd, 2020, after contracting the novel virus and refused to self-quarantined. He willfully breached the COVID-19 safety protocols by appearing in public.

In an official communique from the seat of government, Jubilee House, the President has received and avowed the Tema-West Constituency Legislator’s resignation missive from public office with immediate effect.

The outgoing Deputy Minister admitted on some media platforms on Thursday, July 2nd 2020, that he went to some voter registration avenues with full disclosure that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Presumably, the minister exhibited some level of ignorance and negligence as far as his action is concerned. He even went to the extent of defending his grievous conduct and added that he heeled to all the social distancing protocols with his infected COVID-19 driver religiously. Meaning he did not put society at risk.

Hon. Ahenkorah indicated that he needed to be present at these registration centers, because he did not want any unusual speculations from constituents that he has abandoned them during the ongoing exercise.

However, the President took the opportunity to appeal to all government officials to observe the coronavirus safety protocols assiduously, since the disease is life wreaking.

Nonetheless, the Deputy Minister has done the honourable thing by turning in his resignation letter to the Presidency. The laws of the land are paramount and no public servant is exception.

Nana Akufo-Addo wished him well in his next endeavours.
